Chasing Traces from the Past (English version)
The documentary ‘Chasing Traces from the Past’ has been produced and elaborated by researchers from the Department of Geography of the University of Zaragoza, under the direction of the film director Javier Calvo. It is the final product of the project ‘In the footsteps of the past’, co-financed by FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness) and the research group ‘Climate, Water, Natural Systems and Global Change’ of the IUCA, which has also had the support of Interreg POCTEFA and Climpy OPCC.
It has been selected and screened at various festivals such as FICMA ONU México 2019, SUNCINE Barcelona 2019, SUNCINE Vitoria 2020, ECOZINE 219, MADRIFF 2019, Science Film Festival Goethe 2019, Goethe Institute Festival 2019, Dumbo Film Festival 2019, being awarded the Planet WWF award in 2019 at the FICMA-SUNCINE Environmental Film Festival, standing out for its informative and audiovisual value.
The documentary was born with a very clear informative objective, for that reason, in addition to its participation in festivals and competitions, it has been screened in Secondary and High School Centers of Aragon and Navarra, as well as several Climatology Congresses, Scientific Dissemination Days and Universities such as the University of Zaragoza, Autonomous of Barcelona, as well as in the summer 2020 program of the Museum of Science and Water of Murcia.
It is a documentary where researchers make a journey through isolated lakes, ancient forests, remote glaciers, deep caves and archives of rare and historical manuscripts, pursuing those evidences that allow us to infer past climatic conditions beyond the instrumental period. They are accompanied by some of the most important scientists in their fields, to discover the climatic secrets stored in this evidence and in this way understand the climate of the past that will help contextualize the current warming and seek a better adaptation in the future.
